Gewelltes und lockiges Haar über Nacht? Sie können es selbst tun. Wie kann man das tun?

A rich mane full of natural waves is a dream of many of us. And believe it or not, even during that nighttime dream, impressive curls can form on your head. Here are 6 tips on how to get wavy hair overnight with minimal effort.

1) Braid your braids

Want more of a petite wave? Go for the classic braids. It’s the number of braids that determines how small each wave is; if you want really tiny curls, you’ll need more braids of the same thickness.

If you want more bigger flowing waves, focus on one or two braids and be sure to add as many as possible to the ends. And if you want to achieve voluminous hair from the roots, opt for a French braid braided as close to the head as possible.

To make your waves last as long as possible, wash your head in the evening, blow-dry your hair lightly and braid the braids from damp hair. Partial blow-drying is necessary if you’re tightening the braids more, they could still be wet in the morning.

2) Elastic headband trick

Do you have an elastic headband at home for exercise or for cosmetics? It can help you to big rich waves. Just put it over your forehead to cover your damp hair – like an Indian headband.

Then you start threading your hair from one side underneath it. First, you thread one strand under the headband, add another strand to it, and continue like this. In short, you wrap the hair around the headband. When you get to the crown, you leave the last strand hanging and do the same from the other side. Wrap the remaining back two strands together until they disappear completely under the headband.

A minor drawback may be the difficulty of untangling your hair in the morning, especially if you use a hairspray or sea salt water to fix it.

3) Curlers and papillotes

The classic curlers or flexible papillotes are still among the stalwarts. You just have to wind the individual strands onto them and the result depends only on the width of the curler you choose.

The hit of recent years are the magic curlers. These are colourful hollow curlers made of flexible plastic that work like springs. Using a hook, you pull the strand through the curler and it then shrinks into the shape of a future curl or wave.

Tip: How to care for tattoos

Papilots, classic and magic curlers cost a few pennies and really work. However, you need to remember that a night with curlers on your head is not comfortable. Unlike braided pigtails or an inconspicuous headband, they can be uncomfortable and restrictive.

4) Twist your strands into multiple buns

Again – the more buns, the fewer the waves. So divide your hair into several sections, like four squares. And in the middle of each one, twist the strand until you have a big bun, which you secure with a rubber band or hairpins.

5) Waves thanks to a long strip of fabric

Split the damp hair at the top of your head with a braid in the place where you normally wear it. At the top of your head, fasten a narrow strip of fabric with a clip or clip, which will hang evenly like two braids. You can use almost anything – a robe belt, a folded scarf, or cut up an old T-shirt.

Around the fabric, start to gradually wind the individual strands first from one side and then from the other. Secure the bottom of each braid with a rubber band, or you can join the two braids with a clip at the back of the head. In short, make the night with the braids as comfortable as possible.

6) Twist your hair into two braids

Do you want irregular curled waves that create rich volume? Split your hair in half – respecting your normal tresses – grip your hair like you’re going for a ponytail and twist, twist, twist.

Twist the twisted braid lengthwise over your head to the opposite ear, attach with a clip or clipper and continue in the same way with the other braid. Then place this along the first braid. When the braid is loose, you will have beautifully voluminous waves.

How to fix waves or curls?

If you want to do your waves overnight, you should always keep your hair slightly damp before braiding or otherwise styling. When they dry in the desired position, the waves will be much stronger than if you braid your hair „dry.“

After the braids are untangled forget the comb! If you need to separate your hair, do it gently with your fingers. Brushing it out would make the hair limp and leave shiny waves.

A great natural trick and a hit on the internet lately is salt water spray. We all probably know what our hair looks like after a bath in salt water, like at the seaside. They hold their shape tightly, which they had when drying. And so will your waves once they’re dry.

Do you have a favourite dryer? Then feel free to apply a small amount of it to damp hair before styling. This way your waves will be perfectly fixed. The only downside may be the styling afterwards – the waves will be harder to separate and may look less natural.

You can probably use special wave fixing products from sprays to pastes. But classic hairspray can also help to fix it. We recommend fixing each wave separately so that you don’t create a hard hat on your head. And don’t go overboard with the hairspray, as it can distort the natural look.
